In 1987, being 12 years old, I had my first real encounter with the world of hip hop. It was an exciting time, as hip hop was becoming more and more popular. I first heard hip hop music on the radio and seen it on TV, but it wasn't until I put my first rap cassette in my boombox, the Beastie Boys’ Licensed To Ill, that everything changed.
I embarked on my hip hop journey when three youngsters began to play with an airplane, leading to the creation of an unforgettable album cover.
Looking back on that moment, I realise that my first contact with hip hop was the beginning of a lifelong love affair with the culture. I may have been just a 12-year-old kid at the time, but that moment changed my life forever.
